Arteta an admirer of Buendia but club yet to contact Norwich

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is an admirer of Emiliano Buendia but the Gunners are yet to contact Norwich regarding the Argentine midfielder, according to Chris Wheatley of Football.london.

The Norwich midfielder is believed to be one of a number of players on the North London side’s shortlist. Buendia is believed to be focussed on Norwich and getting them back to the Premier League but is refusing to rule out a move in January. His future is likely to hinge on whether Norwich would be open to letting him go next month.

Last season, the 23 year old scored one goal and provided eight assists in 39 games across all competitions. His key pass rate of 3.3 per 90 minutes in the 2019/20 campaign was only second to Kevin De Bruyne. In that same period, he created 70 chances which was bettered only by the Manchester City midfielder and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

This season, Buendia has scored two goals and provided five assists in ten Championship games. His ability to create chances and make a difference in the attacking third is exactly what the Gunners need right now and it is understood that signing a creative player is their primary objective in the upcoming transfer window. They have also been linked with Red Bull Salzburg’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.
