Luiz in ‘good health’ but ruled out of Arsenal’s Europa League game against Rapid Vienna

David Luiz is in good health but has been ruled out of Arsenal’s Europa League game against Rapid Vienna.

The Brazilian defender and Wolves’ Raul Jimenez were involved in an accidental collision of heads in the early stages of Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at the Emirates on Sunday.

Jimenez was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with a fractured skull. He was operated on immediately to avoid any long term damage and the operation was a success. He issued a statement saying he will be under observation and hopes to return to the pitch in the near future.

Luiz suffered a cut on his forehead and stitches were applied to his cut by Arsenal’s medical staff on the pitch. On being assessed, it was found that he was not suffering from a concussion and so he played the entire first half. On further assessment at half time, the decision was made to substitute him due to bleeding from the cut and the discomfort he was feeling as a result.

Arsenal’s club doctor visited the 33 year old on Monday and Luiz reported to the club’s training centre the following day. He will continue to be monitored in the coming days but is currently in good health. His cut will take some time to heal and so he will be unavailable for the Gunners’ Europa League tie this Thursday.
