Mari starts for Arsenal against Rapid Vienna

Pablo Mari will make his first appearance of the season for Arsenal against Rapid Vienna tonight.

The Spanish central defender suffered an ankle injury against Manchester City in June and has been out of action ever since. He played 45 minutes for the Arsenal Under-23 side against Derby County on Friday as he looked to step up his match fitness.

Alex Runarsson starts in goal while Pepe comes back into the team after missing the North London club’s 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend due to his three match suspension. Mohamed Elneny gets his first start since recovering from the coronavirus.

Callum Chambers is on the bench for the Gunners tonight and this will be a big boost for Mikel Arteta. The defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at the Emirates in the early days of Arteta’s time at the club but is now back to full fitness.

Folarin Balogun, Miguel Azeez and Emile Smith-Rowe are on the bench for the North London side. Balogun will hope to get some minutes against Rapid Vienna and score his second goal for the senior side while Azeez will be hoping to make his first team debut.
