Partey to miss ‘the next few matches’ due to injury

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Thomas Partey will miss the next few matches due to an injury he suffered in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Gunners boss said that the Ghanaian got injured in the same area as before but not the exact same spot. Partey suffered a thigh injury during the North London club’s 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates which kept him out of action for almost a month.

He worked his way back to fitness in time for his first North London derby since joining the club for £45 million from Atletico Madrid in the summer. Unfortunately, he sustained a similar injury at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and is now set for a spell on the sidelines. Reports suggested that there were fears regarding when the 27 year old would return to action but Arteta has put those fears to bed.

Partey has put in a series of impressive displays for the Gunners since his arrival. The Ghana international has made six appearances for Arteta’s side in all competitions. He put in his best performance in an Arsenal shirt at Old Trafford as Arsenal beat rivals Manchester United 1-0. The impact that he has had on the North London side is there for all to see and his absence over the next few matches will come as a real blow to Mikel Arteta.

On Partey, Arteta said:

“He got injured in the same area, not exactly the same spot but the same area as before. He will miss the next few matches.”
