Arsenal technical director Edu confirms the club need a creative midfielder

Arsenal’s technical director, Edu Gaspar, has confirmed that the club are in need of a creative midfielder, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners have scored just 11 goals in 13 Premier League games this season. They rank 14th in the league for big chances created 16th for shots taken. Willian was expected to add creativity to this Arsenal side but he has made a disappointing start to his time at the Emirates.

The North London side were close to signing Houssem Aouar from Lyon in the summer but were unable to agree a fee with the French side. This is proof that Arteta and Edu have been aware of the need to add creativity to the squad.

For the last two years, Arsenal’s creativity has decreased and they have had to rely on the clinical finishing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for their results. This season, their chance creation has gone down even further and the Gabon international has not been as ruthless in front of goal as he has been in the past.

It is crucial that the club address their lack of creativity in the January transfer window and based on Edu’s comments, it looks like they plan on doing just that. They could go back in for Aouar next month but it is unlikely that Lyon will be willing to part with their star man in the middle of the season.

Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia and Inter Milan’s Christian Eriksen have also been linked with the Gunners. Buendia is not expected to push for a move but would be open to a transfer if Norwich were willing to sell him.

Eriksen has been a bit-part player for Inter this season and does not fit into manager Antonio Conte’s plans. Both the player and the club want to engineer a transfer in January and Arsenal could make a move.
