Arsenal target Aouar says he is ‘not looking at the transfer window’

Arsenal target Houssem Aouar has said that he is not looking at the transfer window and is trying to have the best season possible, according to French media outlet Footmercato.

The Gunners came close to signing the Lyon midfielder in the summer transfer window but were unable to agree a fee with the French side. They retain an interest in the player and it has been reported that they will look to sign him next month. The North London side are in dire need of a creative midfielder and signing a player in this position is believed to be a top priority for the club in the January transfer window.

Regarding the January transfer window, Aouar said:

“Honestly, I’m not looking at the transfer window. I am here. I try to progress personally. I will try to have the best possible season. “We do not know what could happen tomorrow but I’m here, very motivated to bring the most to the team.”

The France international’s comments will come as a blow to the Gunners as they do not seem to indicate that he is interested in a transfer next month. It will also be a tough ask to convince Lyon’s notorious President, Jean Michel-Aulas, to let one of his best players to leave in the middle of the season.

Aouar is one of the players that have been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks. The North London side are also believed to be monitoring Inter Milan’s Christian Eriksen and Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia.
