Hertha Berlin centre back Rekik arrives in London ahead of sealing his move to Arsenal

Hertha Berlin centre back Omar Rekik has arrived in London ahead of sealing his move to Arsenal, according to Jeorge Bird.

Rekik is a product of the Hertha Berlin academy. This season, the 18-year-old has scored one goal and provided one assist in eight appearances for the German side’s reserve team in the Regionalliga Nordost which is the fourth division of German football.

His older brother, Karim Rekik, currently plays for Hertha Berlin’s senior side. He joined Manchester City in 2011 but made just three appearances for the Citizens over a four year period before departing. His younger brother will be hoping to have a more successful time in England.

The young defender is very highly rated and the Gunners will be thrilled to finally be signing him. They came close to signing him for £900,000 towards the end of the summer transfer window but were unable to get the deal over the line.

It is expected that Rekik will join Arsenal’s Under-23 side initially. If he impresses, he will be provided with an opportunity to play for the senior team. Rekik has represented Netherlands at the Under-18 level and Tunisia at the Under-21 level.

The Gunners are expected to confirm the arrival of Rekik in the coming days.
