Luiz unhappy at being left out of the squad that travelled to Old Trafford last month
|David Luiz was unhappy at being left out of the squad that travelled to Old Trafford last month, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The 33-year-old was omitted from the squad as an injury precaution but he felt fully fit and as a result, cut a frustrated figure when left behind. There have been reports recently suggesting that Luiz and Arteta’s relationship has deteriorated and that the two are not on talking terms. Arsenal have denied this and insist that Luiz and Arteta have a good relationship.
The Brazilian has been one of Arsenal’s best performers since Arteta became the manager of the North London side. The Gunners’ improved defensive record in the second half of last season had a lot to do with Luiz’s improvement in form. He has been the leader of Arsenal’s rearguard ever since Arteta took over the reins. Luiz’s representative came out and denied that there was a rift in his client’s relationship with Arteta.
He has started just one Premier League game in the last seven. He missed the Tottenham and Burnley games as he was recovering from the head injury he suffered in Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers after clashing heads with Raul Jimenez.
The former Chelsea defender is likely to start the Gunners’ next Premier League match against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday as Gabriel, his compatriot, will miss the game through suspension after being sent off in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Southampton at the Emirates.
