City boss Guardiola says it would be a ‘big mistake’ for Arsenal to sack Arteta

Manchester City boss has said that it would be a big mistake for Arsenal to sack manager Mikel Arteta, according to the BBC

He made these comments after his side beat the Gunners 4-1 in the Carabao Cup quarter-final at the Emirates. Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Aymeric Laporte were on target for City while Alexander Lacazette scored for the North London side.

Arsenal deserved to get beaten by Guardiola’s side and a number of players put in sub-par performances. The only player who made an impact was Gabriel Martinelli who started his first game of the season for the Arsenal first team. He was full of energy, industry and bravery. He provided the assist to Alexander Lacazette. He suffered an injury in the closing stages of the first half but came back out for the second period. He did not last long and was substituted within minutes of the game restarting.

Mikel Arteta is under serious pressure after the Gunners succumbed to another defeat. They haven’t won a Premier League game in their last seven and are currently 15th in the table. The North London side have scored just 12 goals in 14 league matches this season and are struggling to create goalscoring opportunities.

Speaking about Arteta’s future at Arsenal, his mentor Pep Guardiola said:

“I’m pretty sure they are going to trust him. They will do a big mistake if they are thinking [of dismissing him]. I know his incredible quality as a human being and especially as a manager, how he is involved in everything. It’s just a question of time and he will do well.”

“Football changes in one week so quick. I can speak about my experience alongside him – one of the most incredible, successful teams in English history we had, and he was part of this success.”

“It would not be possible without him. To create something like this you need time like I had in my first season.”
