Arsenal reportedly in talks with former PSG boss Tuchel

Arsenal are reportedly in talks with former Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel about succeeding manager Mikel Arteta, according to German media outlet Bild via beIN Sports France.

The German manager was sacked by PSG earlier this week despite leading them to the Champions League final last season. He is set to be replaced by former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino who has also been linked with the Arsenal job in the past.

It is understood that despite the Arsenal hierarchy currently being firmly behind Arteta, they have started thinking about alternate options in the event that the Spaniard is unable to improve results. Tuchel is said to be very excited about the possibility of managing in the Premier League and sees England as his next destination.

Tuchel became the manager of PSG in the summer of 2018. He guided the French side to two Ligue 1 titles, a Coupe de France and a Coupe de la Ligue. They won the French treble last season and came close to adding a fourth trophy to their cabinet in a single campaign after reaching the Champions League final but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich.

The Gunners are currently 15th in the Premier League and haven’t won a game in the league since November 1st. They take on Chelsea at the Emirates on Boxing Day and will be looking to return to winning ways.

While it is logical that the North London side will, at some point, have to consider all their options if results don’t turn in their favour over the next few months, the news that they are currently in talks with Tuchel sounds a bit premature and must be taken with a pinch of salt.

He will certainly be on their list of potential targets if they were to decide that a managerial change was required at any point.
