Macey closing in on move to Scottish side Hibernian
|Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Macey is closing in on a move to Scottish side Hibernian and will undergo a medical later today, according to Sami Mokbel of the Daily Mail.
The 26-year-old was expected to leave in the summer but ended up staying in North London. After Emiliano Martinez’s departure to Aston Villa, the Englishman would have fancied his chances of becoming the club’s second-choice goalkeeper but he has seen Alex Runarsson leapfrog him in the squad and is now set to leave the club.
It is understood that he will leave the club on loan for the remainder of the season. Macey has just six months remaining on his contract with the Gunners so he will be a free agent at the end of his loan spell in Scotland.
Macey signed for Arsenal from Bristol Rovers in 2013 and made his debut for the North London club in 2017. He has made two appearances for the Gunners’ senior squad over his seven years at the club. During his time at the Emirates, he was loaned out to Accrington Stanley, Luton Town and Plymouth Argyle.
It is expected that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will promote one of the club’s youth team goalkeepers, either Karl Hein or Arthur Okonkwo, to the senior side. The Gunners have, however, been rumoured to be in the market for a goalkeeper.
