Arsenal hope Martinelli will return to full training ‘in the next few days’
|Arsenal hope Gabriel Martinelli will return to full training with the squad in the next few days.
The Brazilian attacker suffered an ankle injury as he was warming up ahead of the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the FA Cup. He was named in the starting lineup but was replaced by Reiss Nelson due to his injury.
Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that the player would undergo a scan of his ankle after which the severity of his injury would be revealed. It was initially feared that the 19-year-old would be out for a significant period of time but results from the scan have indicated that the injury is not serious and that the player will be able to return to full training shortly.
The fact that Martinelli’s injury is not serious will come as a huge boost to Arteta. The industrious winger has been very impressive since returning from a long-term knee injury and has been one of the players who has inspired Arsenal’s return to form in recent weeks.
The 19-year-old will miss the North London club’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace but could be back in contention for the following league game against Newcastle United at the Emirates.
