Premier League’s director of football Richard Garlick to join Arsenal as director of football operations

The Premier League’s director of football, Richard Garlick, will join Arsenal as director of football operations in the next few months, according to The Athletic via football.london

Garlick has been the Premier League’s director of football since the summer of 2018. He oversees football operations, football relations, youth development, coaching and young player education in his role with the Premier League.

Prior to this, he spent eight years at West Bromwich Albion. During his time at the Hawthorns, he was the club’s director of football, legal secretary, secretary and technical director.

It is understood that he will succeed Huss Fahmy and help deal with player contracts and negotiations. Prior to Fahmy, this role was done by Dick Law. Garlick will work closely with Arsenal’s technical director Edu Gaspar in his new role. Garlick is a qualified solicitor and specialises in sports law. He has worked at a number of law firms.

It is believed that his legal experience is part of what the North London club are looking for from their new director of football operations. In addition to working on contracts, he is expected to work closely with academy manager Per Mertesacker.

Regarding Garlick’s appointment, Arsenal issued a statement that reads:
