Arsenal interested in signing Odegaard on loan
|Arsenal are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Martin Odegaard on loan for the rest of the season, according to Sky Sports.
The 22-year-old returned to Real Madrid in the summer after spending the 2019/20 campaign on loan at Real Sociedad. He was expected to be a big part of head coach Zinedine Zidane’s plans this season but has not gotten as much game time as he would like.
He has made just nine appearances in all competitions and has only started three times in the league. It is understood that Odegaard has asked the Spanish giants to let him leave the club on loan in the January transfer window in order to get regular game time.
The Gunners have made approaches for the player in the past but have failed to sign him. They have contacted Real Madrid about signing him on loan this month and the La Liga champions are believed to be considering the North London club’s offer.
A number of clubs including Real Sociedad are interested in signing Odegaard in the January transfer window and so Arsenal will face stiff competition for his signature.
During his time on loan at Real Sociedad last season, Odegaard was one of the club’s most important players. He scored seven goals and provided nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
The North London side are keen on signing a creative midfielder this month but would prefer to bring a player in on a short-term deal. Odegaard fits the bill and considering the fact that he is keen on leaving the Spanish capital this month for regular football, this move could be ideal for all parties.
