Arsenal legend Pires predicts that Ramsey will return to the club
|Arsenal legend Robert Pires has predicted that Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey will return to the Emirates one day. He said this in an interview with TuttoJuve via Sport Witness.
Ramsey spent eleven years at Arsenal before leaving the club on a free transfer to join Italian giants Juventus in the summer of 2019. It is believed that the Wales international wanted to stay at the North London club but was not offered the wages he was looking for.
During his time at the Emirates, he scored 65 goals and provided 65 assists in 371 appearances across all competitions. He played a pivotal role in three FA Cup wins for the Gunners.
Since joining the Old Lady, he has scored six goals and provided four assists in 55 appearances across all competitions. He was a part of the team that won the Italian league last season.
He is flourishing in Andrea Pirlo’s debut season as Juventus head coach and has scored two goals and provided three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.
The Gunners have lacked goalscorers in their midfield and many have lamented the fact that Ramsey is no longer at the club. Speaking about the whether the 30-year-old would stay in Italy for a long time, Pires said:
“He is very intelligent and knows how to adapt everywhere, Juve is a very big club and Serie A is improving him even more. He needs to stay a few more years and then he will return to Arsenal. It is my belief, I am not a fortune teller.”
On whether Arsenal miss a player like Ramsey, he said:
“Aaron would be perfect in Mikel Arteta’s game system, but he belongs to Juve and he has to stay focused on the Old Lady to win trophies. This year he has already won one, I hope it’s just the first in a long line.”
The Welsh midfielder has over two years remaining on his contract with Juventus and remains to be seen if the North London club would be interested in bringing the player back to the Emirates when he is 32 years old.
No thanks. I heard he kept turning down offers & in the
end when he went to agree the new contract but Arsenal
had had enough & withdrew it.
But probably one of the many stories.
Would prefer one of our younger players in that role.
