Tierney’s scans come back clear, injury down to fatigue and player expected to return soon

Kieran Tierney’s scans have come back clear and it is thought that his injury is down to fatigue rather than something more serious, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The Scotland international has missed Arsenal’s last five games in all competitions due to a problem with his right leg. Mikel Arteta recently said that the injury he was suffering from was different from his past injuries. Tierney’s absence has been a massive blow for the Gunners as he has been one of their best players this season.

The 23-year-old is one of the North London side’s best attacking outlets and a lot of Arsenal’s goalscoring chances come down the left side of the pitch as a result of Tierney making intelligent runs down the wing on a consistent basis.

Tierney is the only left-footed left back at the club now that Sead Kolasinac has joined Schalke on loan for the rest of the season. As a result, Cedric Soares has been deputising for the Scotsman and while the former Southampton full back has put in a number of impressive performances, the fact that he is right-footed means that it is not ideal for him to continue playing in that position.

There have been a number of fears that Tierney could be set for a spell on the sidelines but it is understood that a recent scan of his right leg has come back clear. It is believed that his injury is down to fatigue rather than anything more serious and so he is expected to be back in action very soon.

This is great news for Arsenal and Arteta as they look to bounce back from consecutive defeats in the Premier League and get back to winning ways against Leeds United at the Emirates over the weekend.
