French Football Federation to open investigation into Saliba controversy

The French Football Federation (FFF) will open an investigation into the video controversy surrounding William Saliba, according to French media outlet RMC Sport.

In the last 24 hours, an inappropriate video of the French central defender from around three ago has emerged on social media. The clip has gone viral and the former Saint-Etienne player has come under a lot of scrutiny.

The 19-year-old can be seen wearing a French national team jacket in the video. The FFF have decided to investigate the issue and have a disciplinary commission to take the matter forward and present their findings. They view the images as harmful to the image of the federation and football as a whole.

Saliba left Arsenal in January and signed for Nice on loan for the remainder of the season. He has made a strong start to life in the south of France and was recently named the French side’s Player of the Month for January. More recently, he has thrived in a back four that sees him paired with Barcelona loanee Jean-Clair Todibo. The two players put in imperious performances in Nice’s 3-0 victory over Angers on Sunday.

On the back of a few controversial interviews in which he made it clear that the first half of the season was frustrating for him, Saliba is doing himself no favours by getting embroiled in these kinds of controversial situations. Mikel Arteta and the rest of the Arsenal hierarchy will surely be keeping tabs on this situation.
