Arsenal confirm venue for second leg of Europa League clash with Benfica

Arsenal have confirmed that the second leg of their Europa League Round of 32 clash with Benfica will take place at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis in Athens. This is Greek side Olympiacos’ home stadium.

The Gunners have bad memories of this stadium as they were knocked out of the Europa League by Olympiacos at this venue last season at the same stage of the competition. They will hope for a different outcome this time around.

The second leg between the North London side and Benfica will take place on February 25th at 5:55 pm GMT. Arsenal will be the ‘home’ side in Athens and will look to secure their passage to the Round of 16 of this competition.

The first leg will take place at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico on February 18th at 8 pm GMT. The venues for these fixtures have been changed due to the United Kingdom’s travel restrictions as a result of the pandemic. The Gunners would have to isolate for ten days after returning from Portugal and this is not possible due to their fixture commitments and busy schedule.

UEFA have confirmed that in the event of a draw over two legs between these two sides, the usual away goals rule will apply.
