Arsenal investigate Aubameyang over possible breach of Covid-19 protocols

Arsenal are investigating captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over possible breach of the club’s strict Covid-19 protocols, according to Charles Watts of Goal.

A video has emerged on social media which shows the Gabon international getting a new tattoo on his hand. The North London club are in the process of determining whether the player, who scored a hat-trick in the Gunners’ 4-2 win over Leeds United in the Premier League on Sunday, may have broken lockdown rules and Arsenal’s bio secure bubble.

The club’s hierarchy plan on holding talks with the 31-year-old to gain clarity over the situation.

Footage of Aubameyang getting a new tattoo has been posted on the Instagram account of Spanish tattoo artist Alejandro Nicolas Bernal. Neither the player nor Bernal were wearing masks as the former Borussia Dortmund striker was getting his new tattoo.

The United Kingdom’s government regulations currently state that all mobile and static tattoo parlours have to remain shut as a result of the pandemic.

The Gunners released a statement on the matter which reads as follows:

“We will speak to the player about this matter and establish what has taken place.”

The North London club will determine when exactly the Gabonese striker got his new tattoo as that information currently remains unclear. No further action will be taken until the club can be certain of whether any rules have been broken which may have compromised their bio secure bubble.

The 31-year-old has only recently returned to the country after being given time off to visit his mother who was suffering from poor health. As a result, the club captain missed his side’s Premier League games against Southampton and Manchester United.

The Gabon international scored his first Premier League hat-trick last weekend in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Leeds United and the player hailed the support he has received in recent times from the club as well as the fans. He said:

“It’s been a tough time for me but now it’s time to get my smile back, to win games and score goals. Everyone has given me a lot of love. I’m really proud to be a part of this family, so I have to say thank you to everyone at the club, and the fans as well because I received a lot of messages.”

“I’m really happy and these goals are for them.”
