Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger comes out in support of Mikel Arteta
|Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has defended incumbent manager Mikel Arteta after the club lost the third match in a row in the new Premier League season.
In the season opener, Bretford beat Arsenal 2-0. Chelsea then defeated Arteta’s men 2-0 and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City buried five goals behind the net to overwhelm the Gunners.
While the start to the new campaign has been bizarre for the club so far, Wenger feels that the club should be cut some slack since they faced two of the toughest EPL teams (Chelsea and City) early in the season.
“Today the club is in good shape. They had two tough games, the team has potential and I hope they can come back. At the moment I’m just a fan,” Wenger said in a recent interview.
The Gunners will take on Norwich City next at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta has approximately spent £131.8million on new signings this summer. However, the fans are still waiting for the club to make an impact after a disappointing campaign last season, missing out on European football for the first time in 25 years.
If Arsenal continue to take the hit this campaign as well, this might be the last time we will be seeing Arteta as the club boss.
