Andre Onana is in no mood to extend his contract at Ajax. This is where Arsenal can make hay of the opportunity and sign the goalkeeper for free next summer.

Ajax Director Overmars has told Ajax TV that the Cameroonian professional does not want to prolong his stay when his contract ends next year.

“We have been very clear. We have been working on extending his contract for a long time. Well, that doesn’t work,” Overnars clarified.

“In football, you never know – but I don’t see (a contract extension) happening any time soon. “(A January exit) could (happen) but it must yield a decent amount. If the amount is insufficient, (he will leave) for nothing in June.”

The 25-year-old will be an ideal replacement for Bernd Leno, another GK who will be a free agent after ten months. Onana was linked with the Gunners last season too, but the talks never progressed to paper.

Ajax has a reputation for turning average players into superstars. This buy-low, sell-high transfer policy helps them generate profit every season. Ajax were willing to accept £7 million for Onana this summer. So, it will be interesting to see what will the Dutch club demand in early 2022.
