Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas was amused to see the downfall of Willian. Somehow, it doesn’t sit well with him that how a high performer at Stamford Bridge struggled to display his skills at Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian star has gone back to his country to rejoin his boyhood club Corinthians. The former Chelsea man scored only one goal in his 37 appearances for Arsenal.

The midfielder signed for the Gunners on a free transfer in 2020. He was being paid £220,000 a week. However, the three-year contract was cut short due to a series of failures that saw him off the Emirates Stadium after one season.

Speaking on Where’s Jeff? Podcast, Nicholas seemed just as disappointed in Willian’s Arsenal stint as every Gooner. “Willian was a fantastic player at Chelsea, but he was an absolute disaster at the Arsenal,” he said.

The Sky Sports pundit suspected that there might have been an agreement reached between the club’s management and Willian before the player terminated his contract.

“A lot goes through the books undisclosed, and I can’t imagine he’s ripped it up and walked away from it with no gain whatsoever. There has been some sort of agreement reached,” Nicholas said.
