Ian Wright hails ‘fantastic’ Arsenal debutant Takehiro Tomiyasu against Norwich
|Takehiro Tomiyasu has seemingly impressed a former Arsenal player and many Gunners who have been waiting to see him don the Arsenal jersey for a while.
“I thought he (Tomiyasu) had a fantastic debut. I thought Aubameyang looked sharp,” Ian Wright said on Match of the Day on BBC One.
The young Japanese star, who was signed for £20 million from Bologna, featured in Arsenal’s first win of the season as a surprise starter. In their fourth game this season, Mikel Arteta’s men beat Norwich 1-0 at home to open the account. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal in the 67th minute.
With four games played so far, Arsenal have bagged three points and climbed to the 16th spot from the bottom of the points table. Their next clash is against Burnley.
Tomiyasu is filling in Hector Bellerin’s boots as the latter has been loaned to Real Betis. Earlier, Arsenal technical director, Eduardo Gaspar aka Edu, had hinted at the Japanese star’s immediate entrance into the scene.
“He is someone who can come here and play straight away because we loaned Hector Bellerin to allow space for him to come and feature straight away. That’s the plan but of course, it’s up to Mikel if he plays or not.”
