Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta seems to be highly impressed with his newly signed defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu, following his debut game against Norwich.

“Really good. He looked really confident from day one, he only had two training sessions, but from day one he knows exactly what to do,” Arteta said. “He was really focused and determined and a big personality to play. He had to come off, Cedric comes in, and he did a great job.”

The 22-year-old was a surprise starter in the 1-0 win over Norwich at the Emirates Stadium. It did not take him many minutes to gel with the fellow Gunners on field as he was up and running from the beginning. This was Arsenal’s fourth Premier League game and first win of the season.

The Japense defender was signed for £20 million from Bologna to replace Spain’s Hector Bellerin. Tomiyasu has impressed Arsenal legend Ian Wright as well after helping the side keep a clean sheet for the first time this season.

The Gunners will now have to set the tone for the rest of the season after the Norwich win, and acing the road game against Burnely will be Arteta’s top priority.
