Arsenal defender Ben White has hailed goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale for saving a penalty chance against Burnley which may have cost the team crucial points. Thanks to a flamboyant Martin Odegaard freekick, Arsenal won the road game 1-0 after surviving a scare when Burnley’s Matej Vydra pounced on White’s pass and almost got the hosts a penalty.

When the referee saw the VAR replay, he decided against the penalty as Ramsdale had got in contact with the ball first and had nothing to do with Vydra tripping inside the box.

Speaking to Arsenal.com after the game, Ben White took a sigh of relief.

“It was a tough one, my heart skipped a beat for a second,” the defender said. “It was really, really dry out there today and my pass back didn’t get there at all. Luckily Aaron came to save me.”

The Burnley win was Arsenal’s second in a row this season after losing the opening three matches. It was also the second consecutive clean sheet for the Gunners having conceded 10 in the first three clashes.

“I think clean sheets are really important,” White continued. “‘If you get that, you’ve got a good chance of winning. We’ve got the quality upfront so if we’re keeping a clean sheet, we’re always going to win a game.”
