Mikel Arteta is worried about Granit Xhaka’s knee injury that he sustained against Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday. The defender had to leave the game wobbling at the 82nd minute.

“Unfortunately he got injured. I’m pretty worried because it doesn’t look very positive at the moment,” the Arsenal boss said after Arsenal won 3-1 against Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal have jumped to the 10th spot after consecutive wins in the Premier League.

Despite the injury, Arteta backed his decision to recall the Swiss defender for the Sunday clash.

“We had to think about it. We had different options to play against them. We believe that the way we set up and what we wanted to do in the game was the right call to do that,” Arteta explained. “I understand that a lot of people would say ‘you won the last two games why are you going to change it’. “We did it with the intention of being the right thing to do to start the game and then to have other options as well to change it.

Xhaka, 29, had just joined the huddle after returning from the international break. The last few weeks haven’t been kind on the Swiss star, who recently recovered from COVID-19.
