Arsene Wenger sends message to Arsenal fans amid sublime Premier League form
|Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged the fans to continue supporting the club after their recent upturn in results in the Premier League.
The north London giants made a dismal start to the season with three straight defeats, and they were bottom of the table during the first international break.
There has since been a sublime revival with six wins and two draws from the next eight league games. The club are now fifth, only two points off the top four.
Speaking at the premiere of his documentary ‘Arsene Wenger: Invincible’, the 72-year-old urged the fans to continue supporting the Gunners moving forward.
He also hoped that manager Mikel Arteta can keep the current momentum going, having spent a significant money over the summer to reinforce the squad.
He told PA News Agency via Independent: “My advice is just to the fans to continue to support the club.”
“To Arteta to continue to try and gain the momentum to keep this going.
“They have invested a lot of money and hopefully some potential in the team and (I hope they) continue to keep that momentum in the team.”
Meanwhile, in a separate interview with Sky Sports, the former Gunners boss said that he could return to management at some point of time.
The Frenchman is currently busy with his commitments at FIFA, but acknowledged that he would be interested in managing a national team.
Arteta also had fond words to say about the legendary manager. The Spaniard said that Wenger inspired him to step into coaching and management.
He added that his players would benefit from the Frenchman’s experience, and would like more of his presence at the club in some capacity in the future.
“100 per cent. I was still young and I had my ideas, but he was a different level of inspiration on how I looked at the game.” Arteta told Sky Sports last night.
“I would like him to be more present at the club. I think the players would love him, benefit, and be inspired to have him around and I think for the club it would be a huge boost.”
