Renato Sanches reacts to potential transfer interest from Arsenal
|Lille midfielder Renato Sanches has reacted to the speculation that Arsenal want to sign him next year.
The Gunners could pursue a new midfielder in January, and they have been linked with a move for Sanches.
They have reportedly made contact with his agents, and when asked about the interest, Sanches refused to deny it.
He told L’Equipe: “Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know.”
“I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but I can’t tell now. I know I’m ready.
“If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.”
Our view:
Sanches had a poor loan stint at Swansea earlier in his career while he also struggled at Bayern Munich.
Since his move to Lille, he has had a terrific transformation. His workrate and tackling have seen drastic improvements.
His current deal with the club expires in June 2023, and there has been no progress over a renewal.
It is clear that Sanches is eyeing a bigger challenge and Lille are open to selling him for the right price this winter.
Milan appear to be leading the race, having already made an approach to the French outfit for the player.
However, the Gunners are also long-term admirers, and it remains to be seen whether they can convince him.
He would be an ideal player for Mikel Arteta with his tireless workrate and eagerness to drive forward.
His injury record still remains a concern that could restrict Lille from demanding a premium fee.
He is currently valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, and the club could set an asking price around that figure.
