Some Arsenal fans on Twitter heaped praise on Takehiro Tomiyasu following his excellent showing against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The north London giants had a poor league outing at Liverpool last weekend where they were convincingly beaten by a 4-0 scoreline.

They provided the perfect response with a 2-0 win, but needed to work hard for the victory after poor finishing in the opening half.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring in the 56th minute after lovely link-up play with Emile Smith Rowe before Nuno Tavares put him through.

The Gunners graduate lasted for just eight more minutes before he was substituted with a muscular concern.

Gabriel Martinelli made an instant impact off the bench, scoring just 93 seconds after coming on.

The Brazilian netted with a superb volley on the run, shooting across the onrushing goalkeeper.

The goal was created with a delightful floating pass from right-back Tomiyasu, who had an excellent game on both ends of the pitch.

The 23-year-old won seven duels and three tackles. In attack, he managed two take-ons, three key passes and a sumptuous assist.

Tomiyasu was a regular presence in the final third and also came up with three shots, though none were on target.

It was an impressive all-round showing from the right-back. Some of the club’s faithful were delighted for him.

Twitter reactions:

The £18million-rated star has been an excellent addition to the Gunners ranks. He has been an undisputed starter since arriving from Bologna over the summer.

He had a below-par showing on Merseyside last weekend, but redeemed himself with one of his best attacking displays in the Gunners’ shirt so far.

Tomiyasu has already shown that he is strong defensively, and could become an elite Premier League full-back if he can contribute consistently in the final third.
