Arsenal fans rave about Gabriel Martinelli’s display after Man Utd defeat

A section of Arsenal fans were delighted with the performance of Gabriel Martinelli during the club’s disappointing 3-2 Premier League defeat to Manchester United.

The Gunners had the chance to break into the top four with a victory, but they failed to capitalise. Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring in controversial fashion in the 13th minute.

United levelled the proceedings before the break after a poor clearance from Ben White. Another defensive error allowed Cristiano Ronaldo to pull United ahead in the 52nd minute.

Martin Odegaard helped the Gunners equalise few moments later, but the Norwegian was the culprit for United’s winning goal, handing a penalty with a poor tackle on Fred.

Martinelli was definitely the standout performer for the north London club with his excellent work rate as always.

The Brazilian could not finish a scoring opportunity in the 38th minute, but made amends with the assist for the Gunners’ equaliser with a perfect cut-back pass for Odegaard.

Prior to United’s third goal, the £19.8m star led another superb counter-attack before feeding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who unleashed his shot straight at David de Gea.

It could have been a different story, had the club captain spotted Nuno Tavares’ run into the box.

Martinelli recently scored with a stunning volley against Newcastle United, and he carried on with a credible showing at Old Trafford with three key passes and as many take-ons.

Bukayo Saka appears likely to return to the starting line-up against Everton on Monday, and it remains to be seen where Martinelli plays. It would be unfair to drop him.

Aubameyang has had a torrid time up front in recent weeks, and Mikel Arteta could make a shrewd decision to drop him and have Martinelli leading the line at Goodison Park.

Here is how some fans reacted to Martinelli’s performance at Old Trafford.
