Arsenal fans rave about Gabriel Martinelli’s display after West Ham win

Some Arsenal fans hailed the performance of Gabriel Martinelli during the 2-0 Premier League win over West Ham United last night.

The 20-year-old went into the London derby with three goal contributions from four matches. He continued the good run of form.

Martinelli failed to convert a clear-cut chance in the first half, but made amends by opening the scoring shortly after the interval.

He showed terrific composure with a Thierry Henry-esque finish into the far corner after being put through on goal by Alexandre Lacazette.

The goal was pivotal for the Gunners, considering they were unable to double their advantage until the 87th minute.

Martinelli was also excellent with his defensive work yesterday. He tracked back regularly to help Kieran Tierney, registering four tackles.

Some of the club’s faithful on Twitter heaped praise on the £90k-a-week youngster. Here are a few reactions.

Martinelli has impressed with his finishing since his arrival few years ago, but he has not been able to cement a regular role amid injuries and fierce competition for places.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe dropping down the pecking order, he has now got a regular run of games, and is starting to show his true potential.

The Brazilian has bagged two goals and two assists from his last five league appearances, and he should continue to make the starting XI so long as he stays unscathed.

Emile Smith Rowe made his first appearance since his injury with a goal off the bench. He came in the place of Martin Odegaard, who could drop to the bench against Leeds United.
