Takehiro Tomiyasu produces another top defensive display for Arsenal vs West Ham
|Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu continued to build his reputation at the club with another stand-out defensive performance against West Ham United.
The Japan international arrived at the Gunners from Bologna over the summer. He has since been an undisputed choice for the right-back position.
The 23-year-old has been hugely impressive with his ability to win regular duels, and he put in another solid showing in the London derby yesterday.
The right-back won six aerial and ground duels, and was also good with his link-up play with Bukayo Saka, who was a menace for the Hammers backline.
Tomiyasu managed two take-ons, and he was also instrumental for the club’s second goal, winning the ball from Said Benrahma with a superb sliding tackle.
His presence has been a refreshing sight for the Gunners this term. Over the past couple of seasons, they have lacked the defence assurance from right-back.
There is more solidity with Tomiyasu in the line-up, and it is not surprising that he has been ever-present for the club since making his debut in September.
Tomiyasu will be hoping to carry on the good form when the Gunners take on Leeds United this weekend.
The club have moved into the top four of the Premier League for the first time in 14 months, and the onus now remains on sustaining the position.
They will be favourites against an out-of-form Leeds outfit, but quite often we have seen that the players have underperformed in such occasions.
One prime example was the Everton game earlier this month, and manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping that his team can make a quick start at Elland Road.
