Mikel Arteta delighted with Martin Odegaard’s recent Arsenal form

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed his delight over the recent form of Martin Odegaard.

The Norway international was in-and-out of the starting line-up in recent months, but he has now established himself as an undisputed starter.

Odegaard ended December in fine fashion with two assists against Norwich City. Before that, he bagged three goals in and an assist in four league games.

Speaking after yesterday’s 5-0 win over the Canaries, Arteta was pleased with the form of Odegaard and said that he ‘glides the team together’.

He told Arsenal.com: “I think he is playing fantastically well. He helps us a lot, he glides the team together and I am really pleased with him.”

The Gunners are on a five-match winning streak with four league wins. It has been a terrific response after back-to-back losses earlier this month.

Odegaard has played an instrumental role in the run. He has looked a different player this month with his eagerness to get into goalscoring positions.

The 23-year-old is playing with confidence on his side after a slow start to his Gunners career. There is still room for improvement in the final third.

The attacker often tries to find his teammates with through balls. He could be more selfish at times and go for goal as he can strike them from distance .

The Gunners are assured of the fourth spot until the New Year after yesterday’s win. They are currently six points ahead of arch-rivals Tottenham on the table.

Spurs have three games in hand, but there are no assurances of points and they will have to earn them while coping with a congested schedule next year.

Arsenal will return to action on New Year’s Day against Manchester City at home.

Tuesday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers has been postponed amid a coronavirus outbreak within the opposition squad. It was confirmed yesterday.

The news should be welcomed by Arteta, considering the Gunners were scheduled to play Wolves less than 48 hours after facing the Canaries away from home.

The Gunners boss has ideal time to prepare for the Manchester City clash. The club will be aiming to end a wretched nine-match losing league streak against them.
