Arsenal handed big boost with Bukayo Saka back in training

Arsenal have been handed a big boost for the West Ham United game with Bukayo Saka having returned to first-team training.

The Gunners graduate picked up a knock during the back end of the 3-1 win over Manchester United. He was subsequently substituted in the 74th minute.

Following the game, Mikel Arteta said that he would be assessed. It now appears Saka has recovered in time to participate in Thursday’s training session.

In a video uploaded on the club’s official website, Saka was actively training alongside his teammates, and appears fit for the upcoming London derby.

The £58.5m star has been instrumental in the last two games, winning crucial penalties. He has also excelled with his build-up play while delivering key passes.

His availability will be a huge boost for the Gunners ahead of the trip to the London stadium, where they have picked up just one win from the last three visits.

The Gunners are currently just two points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, but the latter still have a difficult encounter against Liverpool on the road.

There is also a north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the penultimate gameweek. The Gunners need to go into that game in the best shape.

They had the worst possible start after the international break with defeats against Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton in quick succession.

It seemed gloomy at one point, but stunning wins over Chelsea and United have revived their top-four ambitions despite dealing with injuries to key stars.

Kieran Tierney is out for the season with a knee surgery, but midfielder Thomas Partey is on the treadmill and could make his injury comeback before the season ends.

The Gunners can ill-afford more setbacks over the coming weeks. They need to carry the momentum with a winning run ahead of the crucial derby against Spurs.
