Mikel Arteta hints at more Arsenal signings before deadline
|Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that the club could make more signings before the transfer deadline despite the impressive start to the Premier League campaign.
The Gunners have made a tremendous beginning to the season with three straight victories, but Arteta has insisted that this won’t influence the club’s plans for the remainder of the transfer window.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, the Spanish tactician said that there is still room for improvement in some departments, and hinted over the possibility of late signings.
He said via football.london: “No it doesn’t change, but we know as well where we are short, where we have to add more firepower. And if we can do it, we will do it.”
Arsenal need to bolster two key positions
The Gunners have reinforced multiple positions this summer, but there is still room for improvement in two key areas. The club still need another quality central midfielder.
Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans has been heavily linked throughout the transfer window, and we could see the Gunners make a late approach before the September 1 deadline.
The Foxes have their hands tied with the Belgian’s contract expiring at the end of the season. Tielemans has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, and a cut-price deal seems likely.
Meanwhile, a right winger could also be pursued before the transfer window shuts. Raphinha was the obvious priority at the start of the summer before he made the switch to Barcelona.
Bukayo Saka has made the position his own with the Gunners, but the club graduate can’t play every game. There will be heavy rotation in October this year with the possibility of 10 games.
The north London giants need a quality signing to provide competition. It remains to be seen whom the Gunners go for the role. Moussa Diaby and Yeremy Pino have been linked.
