Arsenal vs Everton Premier League game postponed

The Premier League have confirmed that the games for the upcoming match round have been postponed following the sad demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II yesterday.

The Gunners were in Europa League action in Switzerland last night when the news broke out. There was a minute silence held midway through the game versus FC Zurich.

It was anticipated that sporting events could be postponed. The UK government left the decision to the respective sporting bodies, and the Premier League have now decided that there will be no matches held for this weekend and Monday.

In a statement released by the Premier League, Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “We and our clubs would like to pay tribute to Her Majesty’s long and unwavering service to our country.”

“As our longest-serving monarch, she has been an inspiration and leaves behind an incredible legacy following a life of dedication.

“This is a tremendously sad time for not just the nation, but also for the millions of people around the world who admired her, and we join together with all those in mourning her passing.”

With the Premier League’s decision, the Gunners won’t be hosting Everton this weekend. Further updates will be provided by the Premier League over next weekend’s fixture at Brentford.

It remains to be seen whether this has any impact on the midweek Europa League group stage clash against PSV Eindhoven which is due to be played at the Emirates Stadium.
