Arsenal still keen on Houssem Aouar

Arsenal remain keen on acquiring the services of Olympique Lyon man Houssem Aouar, according to Calciomercato.

Per the report, Aouar is also wanted by Serie A giants Juventus, while Newcastle United and Real Betis have also been credited with an interest in the midfielder.

Aouar, currently valued at €20million, has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in the past but nothing significant has materialised.

Now in the final year of his contract at the Groupama Stadium, the 24-year-old is set to leave as a free agent next summer and a host of clubs are set to battle for his signature should Lyon elect not to sell him in the January window.

Having failed in their deadline-day pursuit of Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, Arsenal will be looking to add one more midfielder to their ranks and the acquisition of Aouar would be a fantastic piece of business.

Capable of playing as a central midfielder or an attacking one, Aouar’s versatility would definitely come in handy for Mikel Arteta who has been laid down to bare bones in the middle of the park on a number of occasions this term with both Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey sidelined.

Having recently resumed training following his recovery from an injury which has limited him to just one Ligue 1 appearance this term, Aouar will be keen to help side arrest their current slump in form as Les Gones suffered a third defeat in a row just before the international break.

Arsenal, meanwhile, made it six wins from seven games with a 3-0 thrashing of Brentford last time out to retain leadership of the Premier League but the Gunners’ title credentials now look set to be tested in a hectic October schedule which includes heavyweights clashes against two of last season’s top four; Tottenham and Liverpool.
