Fabio Vieira impresses in Arsenal’s win vs Bodo/Glimt
|
Fabio Vieira was in superb form for Arsenal on Thursday night as they secured a convincing 3-0 win over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League group stage.
Mikel Arteta was always expected to make wholesale changes to the starting line-up and as many as seven regular starters featured on the bench yesterday.
Despite this, the Gunners were the better side over 90 minutes. Vieira was definitely among the pick of the players as he impressed in yet another outing.
The Portuguese youngster was unlucky to hit the woodwork early on in the game, but made amends with a terrific cross for Rob Holding’s goal in the first half.
Vieira came close to scoring on a few more occasions and eventually found the back of the net in the 84th minute after an outrageous bit of skill from Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus dribbled his way through the Bodo defence and put the ball on the plate for Vieira to tap home.
The 22-year-old has played second fiddle to Martin Odegaard in the Premier League this campaign, but he has certainly shown that he could push for a starting spot.
Aside from his goal, Vieira created two big chances while completing 100 per cent of his passes. He should get more game time with the hectic schedule in the coming weeks.
Arsenal have another 11 games to play with five of those in the Europa League and Carabao Cup. We fancy Vieira to start in each of the Cup outings, judging by his form.
The north London giants will return to Premier League action this weekend against Liverpool at home.
The game will provide a big test of their title credentials. They won’t have a better time to face the Merseyside giants, who looked defensively out of sorts against Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield last weekend.
