Arsenal already in talks with Martinelli over new contract

Arsenal have already opened negotiations with Gabriel Martinelli over a new long-term contract, UOL Esporte journalist Bruno Andrade claims.

The Brazilian youngster has been in fine form for the Gunners over the past 14 months and he is now regarded as an undisputed starter on the left side of the attack.

Martinelli recently produced his best performance of the campaign against Liverpool, scoring in the first minute before providing a lovely assist for Bukayo Saka.

It is now reported that first conversations have already been held over a contract renewal and there is optimism from both ends that an agreement can be reached.

Martinelli’s current deal expires in June 2024. The Gunners want to extend his stay until the summer of 2028.

Arsenal must renew Martinelli’s contract as soon as possible

Martinelli had a difficult start to his Gunners career under manager Mikel Arteta. He sustained a knee injury early on and then had to wait patiently for his chance.

Towards the end of last year, Martinelli produced a brilliant cameo off the bench against Newcastle United, scoring with an exquisite volley with his second touch.

He has since gone from strength-to-strength. The 21-year-old now looks confident in his role. He has managed more take-ons than anyone in the Premier League this campaign.

His finishing from distance has also improved. Martinelli has also progressed well when it comes to his aerial and physical strength and should only get better in years to come.

It is a no-brainer for the Gunners to prolong his stay. Mikel Arteta recently praised Martinelli as a ‘great player’ with an ‘outstanding’ performance and the hierarchy must secure his future soon.

Arsenal will need to reward him with a six-figure weekly salary as he is already on £90,000-a-week.
