Arsenal considering January move for Facundo Torres

Arsenal are considering a January move to sign Orlando City forward Facundo Torres, according to Standard Sport.

The Gunners currently have Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka as the regular wingers, but the latter recently picked up an injury against Nottingham Forest.

While Mikel Arteta has played down any major concerns, the north London giants may want to add more depth and quality when the transfer window reopens.

It is now revealed that Arsenal were weighing up an approach for Torres, who has been recommended to the board by scout Tony Lima, who joined last year.

The Gunners are planning to hold negotiations with his representative soon and it remains to be seen whether they will proceed with a formal bid for his services.

Torres would be a decent acquisition for Arsenal

Arsenal have exceeded expectations for most of the current season and they are presently holding a slender two-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the standings.

Almost everyone including many Gunners fans expect the Cityzens to secure the top-flight title, but Arteta will be hoping that his players can face up to the difficult challenge ahead.

For this, they need quality not only from the starting line-up but also the bench. Torres has had a top season for Orlando, registering 13 goals and 10 assists from 40 appearances.

The 22-year-old has operated equally from both wing positions, but has fared better from the right flank with 14 goal contributions. He is a left-footed winger, who likes to cut inside.

Orlando signed him from Penarol for £6.14 million in January this year. The Major League Soccer outfit could demand double the price as they owe 30 per cent of profits to Penarol.

In our view, Torres could be a decent signing for the Gunners but the hierarchy should look into a more high-profile player such as Cody Gakpo if they want to compete for the title.

There is a vast difference in the intensity of the MLS and the Premier League.

It may take a prolonged time to adapt. A firm example is Miguel Almiron, who has finally found his feet at Newcastle United, three-and-a-half years after arriving from Atalanta United.
