Nuno Tavares reacts to Reiss Nelson’s masterclass vs Forest

Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares was delighted for Reiss Nelson following his spectacular performance against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The Gunners picked up a 5-0 win over Steve Cooper’s side, but the result did not seem straightforward particularly in the opening half.

Gabriel Martinelli put the Gunners ahead after just five minutes on the clock following a superb cross from the right flank from Bukayo Saka.

However, the Gunners were unable to increase the advantage before the break while Saka was substituted in the 27th minute after multiple knocks.

Arsenal fans would have been wary of another repeat of the Southampton game, but Nelson put the fears beyond doubt with a superb showing.

Nelson came on in Saka’s place against Forest and made an instant impact after the break, bagging two goals and an assist – all in the space of eight minutes.

It was his first Premier League appearance of the campaign and was definitely a memorable one as he made a big difference and put the game beyond sight.

Tavares, who is currently away on loan at Marseille, was undoubtedly delighted for his Gunners teammate. He wrote on his Twitter account: “Reiss Nelson 😍🥹❤️ show them.”

Saka’s early substitution was a blessing in disguise for Nelson, who undoubtedly produced the best showing of his Gunners career. It could turn around his recent fortunes.

The 22-year-old was due to play a part at the beginning of this campaign following a season-long loan at Feyenoord, but picked up an unfortunate injury in early August.

Having worked his way back to full fitness, the Gunners graduate showed his quality yesterday and he will be hoping to produce more displays of a similar kind this season.

Nelson is fighting for his club future with his contract expiring in June next year. Mikel Arteta described Nelson as a ‘special‘ talent in a press conference earlier this month.
