Predicted Arsenal line-up vs FC Zurich, Reiss Nelson starts
|
Arsenal will entertain FC Zurich in Thursday’s Europa League group stage clash at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners recently suffered their first defeat of the European campaign with a 2-0 loss at PSV Eindhoven. The result ended their perfect record in Europe, having won their first four games.
They are now scheduled to host Zurich at home. The game is a must-win for them to finish top of the group. PSV are just two points behind Arsenal and now have the head-to-head advantage.
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Predicted Line-up:
Aaron Ramsdale made his European debut in the defeat at PSV where he was at fault for one of the goals conceded. Regardless of whether Matt Turner is fit or not, Ramsdale is expected to continue between the sticks.
In front of him, there could be a couple of changes. Kieran Tierney should come in at left-back after being an unused substitute in the 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
Rob Holding has generally been called up to start in central defence for the European games. Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White could make up the remaining places in the backline.
With the importance of the fixture, we won’t be surprised if Thomas Partey makes his first European start of the season, considering Granit Xhaka will be serving a one-man suspension.
Albert Sambi Lokonga has been largely unconvincing from the number six role. With Partey alongside him, the Belgian could be offered the freedom to operate from a more advanced position.
In attack, Bukayo Saka should be rested even if he has overcome his knocks. Reiss Nelson looks set to start on the right wing after his sublime two goals and an assist coming off the bench vs Forest.
In the number 10 role, it could be Fabio Vieira over Martin Odegaard, who could be given a breather. Gabriel Martinelli should start on the left wing as he has for most European matches.
Eddie Nketiah should likewise lead the attack. The Gunners graduate has plenty to prove against Zurich. There are no assurances that he will keep his place up front for the knock-out phase.
