Arteta and Xhaka nominated for Premier League awards for October

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and midfielder Granit Xhaka have been nominated for the Premier League monthly awards for October.

The Gunners have had a superb campaign thus far and they are currently top of the standings with 31 points, two ahead of Manchester City.

October was another terrific month for them. The north London giants registered four wins in the league – two of those were against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at home.

The only blemish was the 1-1 draw against Southampton. They were in the ascendancy in the first half at St Mary’s and were made to rue for missed scoring chances in the end.

Despite this, the club managed to preserve their top spot and there are no surprises that Arteta has been picked alongside Pep Guardiola and Eddie Howe for the Manager of the Month award.

Arteta has already won the monthly gong on one occasion this term in August and should fancy another award.

Meanwhile, Xhaka has been nominated for the Player of the Month for October amid his stunning run of form. The Swiss has excelled playing from an advanced midfield role.

The 30-year-old has bagged three goals and three assists in the league. Two of those goals came last month and the midfielder definitely deserves recognition for the same.

Xhaka is currently in the form of his life. Gunners fans will be hoping that he can keep up his run as the club push for an unlikely Premier League title ahead of favourites City.

Arsenal have another two games against Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league before the World Cup. They will be aiming to go into mid-season break on a high.

The Gunners visit Stamford Bridge in the early kick-off on Sunday. They have fared well at the stadium lately. The club have won in the last two trips to Chelsea’s home ground.
