Thomas Partey excels for Arsenal in Chelsea win
|
Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey produced a splendid performance during the club’s 1-0 Premier League win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Gunners needed to beat the Blues on the road to reclaim their top spot on the table and they did exactly that with a splendid showing.
The Blues barely offered a threat on goal with just one shot on target while the Gunners were also resolute with their defending when required.
A fortuitous goal from Gabriel Magalhaes from a Bukayo Saka corner sealed the win, but Mikel Arteta’s side were undeniably the better side.
They could have quite easily scored three goals with better finishing, but managed to hold on for a 1-0 win which has become a regular occurrence.
William Saliba was adjudged the man of the match by BT Sport for his excellent composure at the back, but Partey was equally impressive in midfield.
The Ghanaian has been Arsenal’s undisputed choice in the number six role when fit and showed his class with yet another stand-out display on the road.
Partey had 75 touches while completing 52 out of his 56 passes (92 per cent accuracy). He also won two tackles, two interceptions and made three clearances.
The former Atletico star won seven of his duels overall and looks to be playing at the very peak of his powers.
Arsenal’s 1-0 win has seen them reclaim the top spot in the league. They are now two points ahead of Manchester City. There is one game left before the World Cup.
The Gunners have certainly exceeded expectations this term and Partey has had a big part to play. Their only league defeat at Manchester United came when he was injured.
Keeping him fit throughout the season will be essential for the Gunners to stay in the title hunt. Hopefully, Partey will return unscathed after the World Cup with Ghana.
