Arsenal have asked for information on Okafor
|Arsenal have asked for information on Red Bull Salzburg striker Noah Okafor ahead of the January transfer window, Tuttomercatoweb report.
The Switzerland international has been in good form for Salzburg this season, registering 10 goals and three assists from 22 appearances in all competitions.
His form has caught the eye of several European clubs and it is reported that Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham have enquired over his availability this winter.
Salzburg are expected to demand €35 million to part ways with him in January.
Okafor’s versatility would be ideal for Arsenal
Okafor has been impressive for the Austrian champions this term. Three of his goals have come in the Champions League against Chelsea, AC Milan and Dinamo Zagreb.
The Swiss has exclusively played as a centre-forward this campaign, but he has also impressed from the wide attacking positions in the past. Hence, he would be a quality addition for the Gunners as he can provide quality competition in three positions.
Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are nailed-on starters under manager Mikel Arteta, but he Gunners need quality depth to deal with the hectic schedule after the World Cup. There is still the risk of injuries along the way.
At €35 million, the 22-year-old would represent value for money. He has the prime years of his career ahead of him and should only get better. With Chelsea also in the pursuit, Arsenal may need to move quickly to try and sort out an agreement.
The Blues have shown that they are willing to spend big after the takeover from Todd Boehly this year. The club have been pro-active when it comes to negotiating deals, but their low league position this season could benefit the Gunners on Okafor.
While Arsenal are flying high at the top of the table with 37 points, Chelsea are presently lying eighth in the standings with just 21 points on the board. The Gunners could use their league position to their benefit in discussing winter deals.
