Martin Odegaard outstanding as Arsenal beat Brighton
|
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard produced another stellar performance during the club’s 4-2 Premier League win over Brighton & Hove Albion on the road.
The Norwegian has been superb for the Gunners either side of the World Cup.
He scored a brace in the 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in November and carried over the form to the West Ham United game with a couple of assists.
The 24-year-old replicated the showing against the Seagulls last evening. Odegaard put the Gunners 2-0 ahead with an innovative finish from the edge of the box.
Arsenal were on the cosh at 3-1 with regular Brighton pressure, but a stellar long-range pass from Odegaard for Gabriel Martinelli paved the way for the fourth goal.
Aside from his goal contributions, Odegaard also created two big chances for his teammates in the box and could have bagged a hat-trick of assists on another day.
Odegaard bagged his third straight man of the match accolade with the victory and he has certainly been world class for the Gunners in their exceptional league run.
The Norwegian had shown a vast improvement in his finishing this campaign. He has still tried to pick out his teammates but there has been more intent to shoot.
This is definitely a good thing for the Gunners, considering Odegaard gets into brilliant scoring positions in almost every game. He can’t do anything wrong at the moment.
A fifth-straight league win has taken the Gunners seven points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table.
The New Year presents a difficult challenge for the club with Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United to face – two of those matches at home.
However, the pressure will also be on holders Manchester City, who have a tough schedule with Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves to tackle.
