Arsenal interested in cut-price Memphis Depay deal

Arsenal are one of the clubs interested in signing Barcelona star Memphis Depay on a cut-price deal during the January transfer window, Sport claim.

The Gunners have had a tremendous first half to the season and they are deservedly top of the Premier League standings with a five-point lead over Manchester City.

The hierarchy are now aiming to bolster their attack for the title pursuit and there have already been claims that the club want to sign both Mykhaylo Mudryk and Joao Felix.

However, neither of those deals are straightforward at the moment and this could force the Gunners to look into alternative targets towards the end of the transfer window.

Sport report that the Gunners are one of the many Premier League sides keen on Depay, who could be allowed to leave Barcelona before the winter transfer deadline.

Depay has entered the last six months of his deal with the Catalan club and they could be tempted to accept a knockdown fee than losing him for nothing in the summer.

Arsenal could consider late move for Depay

The Gunners’ priorities are quite clear at the moment. Mudryk is the top attacking target on their radar but they have yet to finalise a suitable fee with Shakhtar Donetsk.

It has been recently reported that they are £17.6 million apart from meeting Shakhtar’s £88m asking price. The club are still pondering over a fresh approach for the player.

Elsewhere, the club are also working over a loan move for Felix. They recently held fresh talks with Atletico Madrid for the Portuguese but their demands are pretty high.

The Spanish outfit want a package of £16m including wages for a five-month loan deal. The Gunners are still optimistic of lowering the loan fee for the former Benfica star.

If Arsenal fail to sign one of them, they could weigh up a cut-price deal for Depay. The Netherlands international has been out-of-favour with the Blaugrana but continues to remain in demand.

Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the £177,000-a-week star. The Gunners could prise him away for around £4.4m this month.
