Unplayable £40m powerhouse Ibrahim Sangare is an unbelievable Moises Caicedo alternative for Arsenal – opinion
|Arsenal should be going all out to sign PSV Eindhoven star Ibrahim Sangare as a cheaper alternative to Moises Caicedo.
The Gunners have just had a £70 million bid for the 21-year-old Brighton star rejected, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It appears as though the Seagulls want north of £80 million for the Ecuador international. That’s an awful lot of money for Mikel Arteta to be splashing out on one player in the January transfer window, as good as he undoubtedly is.
Arsenal have proven that you don’t always need to break the bank to sign quality players – Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, William Saliba and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all great examples of this.
I firmly believe that Arteta should adopt that approach again when it comes to bringing in some quality competition and cover for Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka…
Arsenal should sign Ibrahim Sangare instead of Caicedo
In my view, the PSV Eindhoven star would represent a far better deal for the Gunners at this moment in time. Dutch journliast Rik Elfrink claimed back in September that PSV could sell the 25-year-old powerhouse midfielder for around €45 million (£40 million).
That sounds like unbelievable value to me, considering Sangare’s unbelievable quality and how the Ivory Coast international would undoubtedly help take Arsenal to another level entirely, if he did indeed move to the Emirates.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Sangare is an absolute unit of a man, and he possesses energy and athleticism in abundance. He’s a defensive midfielder by trade, but has recently evolved into more of a box-to-box player. The 25-year-old bagged four goals and two assists for PSV Eindhoven last season, and this term he’s racked up six goals and two assists in 28 games.
During 29 outings for PSV last term, Sangare averaged 3.3 tackles and 2.6 interceptions per game. He made 70 passes on average per match and recorded an impressive completion rate of 86.1%. So he clearly contributes at both ends of the pitch.
Ibrahim Sangare is a younger, more athletic version of Thomas Partey. The 25-year-old is absolutely unplayable on his day, and has been described as a powerhouse by Breaking The Lines. However, it must be said that he is not as good with the ball at his feet as the Ghanaian is, nor does he possesses the same quality of passing of the Arsenal star. Those are things that he can definitely improve upon under the tutelage of Mikel Arteta though.
And I believe that for £40 million, Arsenal will not be able to find a better signing that Ibrahim Sangare before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
