Gabriel Martinelli signs new long-term Arsenal contract
Gabriel Martinelli has committed his long-term future to Arsenal by putting pen-to-paper on a new contract until June 2027, reputed journalist David Ornstein reports.
The Brazilian has had a superb campaign for the north London giants. He has been hugely influential in the Premier League title race with seven goals and two assists.
His previous contract until June 2024, had an option for another two years, but the club have decided to reward the 21-year-old with a fresh deal until the summer of 2027.
Arsenal have made the right decision on Martinelli
The Gunners have been prioritising new deals for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Saliba over the past few weeks. The duo have their contracts expiring at the end of next season.
While talks are still ongoing with the pair, the hierarchy have made the right decision to prolong Martinelli’s stay. They could have delayed negotiations but that would have unsettled him.
The £54 million-rated star was previously on £70,000-a-week. It has been reported that he could earn around £180,000 weekly with the extension. This should only motivate him to perform better.
With Arsenal on course for a return to the Champions League, the board will have added funds at their disposal. There could be several players renewing their deals on similar wages.
Hopefully, Saka and Saliba are the next in line. Like Martinelli, Saka and Saliba have played their parts in the surprise title pursuit and should be rewarded with bumper contracts in the near future.
Regardless of what happens in the title race in the coming months, Arsenal have exceeded expectations under manager Mikel Arteta. It should be considered as a successful campaign.
Arsenal return to Premier League action against Everton in tomorrow’s early kick-off at Goodison Park. The Gunners can go eight points clear of Manchester City at the top with a victory.
