Eddie Nketiah wants to put things right against Brentford
|Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is determined to put things right against Brentford following the club’s disappointing 1-0 Premier League defeat at Everton.
The Gunners suffered their first loss in the top-flight in 14 games on Saturday. They were beaten 1-0 by the Toffees, who could have won the game by a bigger margin.
Nketiah, who bagged a match-winning brace against Manchester United, struggled to impose himself. He failed to register a shot on target and managed just eight passes.
Speaking after the loss, the ‘brilliant‘ star admitted that it was a difficult game for the Gunners and Everton deserved their victory after executing their game plan perfectly.
He added that the club got to improve and bounce back in the next game at home against Brentford.
He told Arsenal.com: “It was a difficult game. They made it very tough. Personally, we weren’t at the standard we needed to be at today and we’ve got to improve and make sure we bounce back in our next game.”
“Credit to them, they put out a good gameplan and executed it well today. I felt like we just didn’t execute ours to the best of our ability, we were a bit sloppy at times.
“These games happen, it’s a long season and everything’s not always going to go your way and we know that.”
Arsenal’s title credentials put to test
Arsenal had an impressive month of January, picking up seven points against Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, who are their main Champions League rivals.
Hence, it was anticipated that they would beat the Toffees on the road but the Merseyside outfit looked a different outfit yesterday under the guidance of new manager Sean Dyche.
It is obviously a setback for the Gunners, who could not extend the gap over Manchester City at the top of the table to eight points. They now need to respond in the best way possible.
Arsenal have another huge test on their hands this month. They face Brentford at the Emirates next weekend before tackling Manchester City and Aston Villa in quick succession.
No games are straightforward when it comes to the Premier League. Manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping that his team can bounce back with a return to winning ways against the Bees.
